When selecting a suitable coating, it is necessary to use sufficient information. Thus, the preparation and composition of the coatings will be different in the case of a completely new surface treatment and other for repair or maintenance coatings. Also, with regard to the required resistance and durability of the coatings, it is necessary to choose suitable coating materials, their layers and the preparation of the substrate.
Completely new coat of paint:
Metal surface must be properly prepared – clean, degrease and remove all rust (grinding, brushing, sanding) to clean metal. For critical areas (such as welds, edges, rivets, joints, etc.), it is advisable to first treat the area with the selected anticorrosive primer, or anticorrosive one-layer paint.
Well-proven classic anticorrosive protection for steel is the primer SYNOREX PRIMER S2000 and then the top paint UNIVERZAL SU2013 (the widest shade range and choice of glossy or matt version).
In the range of one-layer paints semi-matt PROTIREZ S2015 with excellent anticorrosive protection and quick drying can be recommended
Water-based one-layer paints are represented by AQUAREX V2115. The great advantage of AQUAREX is its wide use – also for galvanized, aluminium, but also for wood, concrete or plaster.
High UV and weather resistance is offered by a polyurethane paint system – primer AXAPUR PRIMER U2008 and the top paint AXAPUR U2074 or AXAPUR U2060. It is a very widespread coating with the possibility of using both for steel and galvanized. Shade range is very wide – the materials are tinted as per customer’s requirements.
The original old coating is undamaged, well-adherent:
It is only necessary to prepare the surface thoroughly – clean and degrease (often water with detergent is sufficient) and we recommend to lightly sand it with sanding paper no. 240-280 and clean again.
The selection of a new top paint, or one-layer coat (2in1), is done with regard to the type and nature of the original paint. In simple terms, use the same types of paints (synthetic on synthetic), (water-based on water-based) and do not combine different types.
Very popular version of the paint is UNIVERZAL SU2013 (the widest range of shades, as well as the matt finish).
In the range of one-layer paints semi-matt PROTIREZ S2015 with excellent anticorrosive protection and quick drying can be recommended.
For the repair of water-based paints you can choose from matt AKRYLCOL MAT V2045, glossy AKRYLCOL LESK V2046 and mainly matt one-layer paint AQUAREX V2115. AQUAREX with its anticorrosive properties (even in one stronger coating) will protect damaged areas. At the same time, it also resists weathering.
Two-component polyurethanes such as AXAPUR U2074 or AXAPUR U2060 are designed for very high durability. Again, the condition for matching the quality of the underlying paint is valid.
The original old paint is damaged, cracking and there is corrosion:
What is important is a qualified assessment of the preservation and adhesion of the old paint.
If the paint is damaged in the entire area, including full-area corrosion, it is necessary to clean the entire old paint and rust up to pure metal. This is a more demanding matter, but on the other hand there are no possible complications with the “compatibility” of old and new paint. It is therefore possible to select the optimal coating without any restriction.
The paint is damaged (cracking, peeling, penetrating rust) only in some places, not in the whole area. Clean, degrease and sand (roughen) with abrasive paper no. 180-240 and clean again all the places with well-preserved paint. The remaining surfaces of the non-functioning old paint and the rust-affected areas must be cleaned up to pure metal. This is followed by an anti-corrosion coating (topical), first applied to surfaces cleaned to clean metal (preferably to original film thickness). Warning – it is necessary to select a suitable type of coating to ensure the “compatibility” of the new paint and old paint residues. It is then appropriate to perform one unifying priming coating over the entire surface. Topcoats follow after appropriate time.
The range of paints is the same as for a completely new coating.

What to use on galvanized gates, fence, columns, mesh?
ZINOREX S2211 single-layer “2in1” colour is designed for galvanized surfaces.
Water-based one-layer paints are represented by AQUAREX V2115.
In the case of high resistance requirements, on galvanized materials and titanium zinc or steel, the one-layer semi-matt paint “2in1” AXAPUR U2218 is designed.
