History

The story of our company began more than a century ago, when Ing. Kirschner founded a small chemical engineering factory in Staré Město.

History

  • Establishment of the company

Ing. Ludvík Kirschner obtained a trade license and started the production of technical chemicals, impregnation agents and wood varnishes in a rented space in the Old Town (approximately 100 m from the current premises). The main products included, for example, parquet pastes.

  • Development of the production area

After the production was moved to the current premises in 1927, intensive construction of the production area began (oil and synthetic paint production plant, nitrocellulose paint production plant, warehouse buildings and an administrative building). The expansion included a brewing building (production of our own raw materials for paint production) and a modern central laboratory building.

  • Nationalization of a manufacturing company

In 1948, the production plant was nationalized. Production continued smoothly, but under the control of the state apparatus. After 1959, the plant was incorporated into the monopoly national enterprise for the production of paints - BARVY A LAKY n.p.

  • Paints and varnishes in spray cans

The range of products is expanded to include the production of spray paints and varnishes. The construction of a central storage facility for liquid raw materials is completed. In the following years, since 1980, extensive modernization of production technology and an increase in production capacity have been underway as part of the Physically Drying Coating Materials project. This also includes the construction of warehouses, a fire department building, a wastewater treatment plant and the reconstruction of buildings on the premises.

  • Establishment of the joint-stock company COLORLAK, a.s.

During the privatization process, the joint-stock company COLORLAK a.s. was established, which after its establishment focused on restoring and strengthening the position of the paint manufacturer on the European market. As part of the program to eliminate environmental damage that occurred mainly during the socialist economy, it carried out the rehabilitation of the waste dump in the Cihelna area in the following years, 1994 and 1995.

  • Expansion of production technologies and sales network

The production technology was expanded to include an industrial tinting machine (PTA). At this facility, orders for a wide range of color shades can be fulfilled within 24 hours. On July 1, 2005, COLORLAK acquired 100% of the shares in the PANTER COLOR wholesale business. In 2006, it acquired the FEB Spišská Nová Ves retail chain; in 2007, it acquired the TECHNICOLOR retail chain in Slovakia and the EKOLAK plant in Bílovice, which manufactures decorative paints and building materials and supplies certified thermal insulation systems. In 2008, COLORLAK acquires the AAA Barvy s.r.o. retail chain. In Slovakia, the merger of all owned companies results in the formation of COLORLAK SK s.r.o

  • Development of the sales network within the Czech Republic and Poland

In 2011, Ekolak merged with COLORLAK, and COLORLAK Polska sp. z o.o. was established in Poland. Eight years later, the AAA Barvy s.r.o. retail network was renamed COLORLAK maloobchod, s.r.o.

  • Present

After celebrating its 100th anniversary, the company announced an upcoming logo change as well as a merger with its Czech subsidiaries. COLORLAK, a.s. is thus unifying its individual divisions into a single entity under a new logo and preparing to revamp the design of its products.
