How to properly paint wood so that it lasts like new for years?
A wooden fence, pergola or garden furniture is constantly exposed to sun, rain, moisture and frost. Without proper protection, the wood turns grey, cracks, and is attacked by mould or wood-destroying fungi. A properly selected coating with fungicidal protection and regular maintenance can significantly extend the life of the wood and preserve its beautiful appearance for many years.

Surface preparation
Proper surface preparation is the key to a long-lasting finish. The wood must be clean, dry, properly smooth (sanded), and free of old paint.
The wood is new, clean and not yet painted.
- Cleaning of all mechanical impurities and resin residues
- The wood must be dry, max. approx. 18% moisture content
- Properly sanded, the grit size of the abrasive for oil glazes is P80-P150 (depending on use)
- It is advisable to sand all sharp edges.
- Final cleaning
The wood is old, and contains old preserved paint.
- The coating is well-preserved and absorbent, allowing the application of a new layer of OIL STAIN O1020.
- The wood must be dry, max. approx. 18% moisture content
- Cleaning from all mechanical impurities
- If there is a slight amount of colored dust left on your hands and the paint is chalky, a light sanding is recommended.
- Properly sanded, the grit size of the abrasive for oil glazes is P80-P150 (depending on use)
- Final cleaning
The wood is old, and contains old, non-functional paint.

Painting procedure (simplified)
- Conditions:
Optimal temperature 15-25 °C, max. air humidity 75%, if necessary, can be applied from a temperature of 10 °C. Attention: we do not recommend application in direct hot summer sunlight. - Coating of FUNGISTOP S1031, (1-2 layers):
The impregnation is not diluted, just allowed to dry thoroughly, approximately 24 hours. The amount of FUNGISTOP applied (i.e. 1 or 2 coats) is guided by the recommendations in the technical data sheet. - PROFI OIL LAZURE O1020 paint (1 layer):
The coating is carried out with a glazing brush in the direction of the wood fibers. After 15-30 minutes, the unabsorbed remnants of the glazing are wiped off, spread, for example, with a dry glazing brush. The glazing is not diluted. - Paint curing: approx. 2-3 days, always depending on drying conditions, amount of applied glaze and type of wood

- Painting wet wood
- Wrong application temperature (do not apply in direct sunlight or before rain)
- Failure to observe the intervals between layers
- Applying a thick layer of paint, or not wiping it off
- Omission (impregnation) of biocidal protection
Tips and tricks
- Read and follow the manufacturer's recommendations.
- Pay attention to the ends of the boards (joists), they absorb the most moisture.
- For exteriors, it is advisable to paint the boards gradually and from all sides.
- Check the condition regularly, at least once a year.
- Apply the restoration coating before the wood begins to degrade.
